Our diverse extracurricular programs in Orange Park, FL, allow students to explore their passions while reinforcing their spiritual and personal growth. Karate
The Defending the Faith Karate Ministry is a certified school offering an exciting ministry that teaches Tang Soo Do (Korean Karate). Fitness, self-control, and discipline are stressed throughout the program, but make no mistake: this program’s ultimate goal is to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
Our students are trained to be as skilled with their martial arts as those in traditional class settings. Trainees build confidence as they learn about fighting, the value of relying on the “Armor of God,” and the importance of abstaining from violence.
Because we approach this from a Christian perspective, we teach only the physical, mental, and scriptural disciplines and eliminate any form of Asian mysticism that is sometimes associated with martial arts in the secular world.
About Our Karate Ministry
We are a certified school sanctioned through the International Martial Arts Council of America, Karate for Christ International, United States Goodwill Tang Soo Do Association, Christian Black Belt Association, and Martial Arts Chaplain Association.
Defending the Faith Karate has been recognized by the International Martial Arts Council of America. Each time a student tests for the next-level belt, they are required to meet all the physical requirements for that level, complete specific scripture assignments, and, equally important, demonstrate an understanding of the scripture.
Master Gary Lenzi is our certified black belt instructor and was inducted into the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame in July 2011. Our Tang Soo Do training has been designated as its own style of martial art.
Art
Beginning Art
Beginning Art is for the younger students and will allow them to explore their imagination through a series of creative, multimedia art projects. In the process, students are encouraged to use their imagination and abilities to create their own artwork. This class teaches the value of art and encourages the student to enjoy artistic designs.
Intermediate Art
Intermediate Art’s main focus is teaching the basics of drawing in pencil and using color. In this course, students will develop their fine motor skills in drawing and learn various techniques. This class creates a foundation for the student’s artistic expression and enhances their confidence in a creative, individualized, and artistic manner.
Advanced Art
Introduction to Advanced Art expands on drawing basics. Students will begin focusing on shading and shadow techniques to create a three-dimensional look in their art. Their confidence continues to grow, and they begin to explore freedoms in their artistic expression and develop their own individual artistic style.
Advanced Art students begin to explore and identify various levels of difficulty in the art process. By this time, the student’s confidence is evident, and their individual expression begins to show. The class includes a multitude of art media and advances to painting on canvas.
Chess Club
Our Chess Club provides students with an engaging opportunity to strengthen critical thinking, strategy, and problem-solving skills in a fun and supportive environment. Open to players of all experience levels, the club encourages teamwork, patience, and good sportsmanship while fostering healthy competition. Students will participate in practice matches, learn new techniques, and build friendships with fellow classmates who share an interest in the game of chess.
Music
Music has the ability to help a student expand their comprehension, develop unique motor skills, and inspire appreciation for music and its written language. Our music program provides the student with the opportunity to explore potential musical interests. We offer one-on-one keyboard and guitar lessons here at CHA. Our instructors are extremely talented teachers and are dedicated to developing the Christian musicians of the future.
